An epoxy floor coating is usually two-part epoxy that you mix. It will stick to your concrete garage floor better than any other oil based, water base or enamel paint. It will give your floor a dramatic appearance that no other paint can match. The epoxy glue type adhesion will be stronger than duct tape adhesion and will make it waterproof, mold and mildew-proof, as well as being tough as nails. After it cures, an epoxy floor coating will be stain-proof. You can clean it the same way you would clean your Teflon Pan.
We have 30 years of experience and know that garage duty vehicle traffic should be at least 20 mgs. The military grade topcoat version is ideal for garages with big SUVs and tractor trailers. It can take all abuse that you can give it. For commercial duty traffic, you should have less than 10mgs of abrasion rating for pallet jacks, residential or commercial shop work. If you do not want to see color flake, the Commercial Package can be used for garages. Also, we recommend that you do not use color flakes in your work shop. You won’t be able to find dropped parts on flake floors. For industrial applications and for those who simply want the best floor coating, a coating should be 23 mils thick. This is exactly what a ultra military system is for. It has a thickness of between 23 and 30 mils and a loss rating of 4 mg.
Our epoxy garage floors have been sold for over 30 years. We have also installed and tested every garage floor epoxy available so we know which ones work best. There is no such thing as a perfect epoxy coating for every application, nor is there a lifetime coating. We offer many different epoxy systems and epoxies. People make the biggest mistake of using epoxy floor coatings for purposes that are not suitable.
The best epoxy all-around is 100% Aliphatic with a true urethane epoxy toppingcoat. It has an abrasion rate equal to a traffic load. If your budget permits, you can use a primer to improve adhesion and increase coating thickness. These are all good things to consider when constructing an epoxy garage floor.

Epoxy is the best choice of all flooring options. Epoxy is flexible and can be used for any type of application. This is in contrast to rubber rollout mats which might not work well for certain applications. Epoxy is a great choice for DIY projects also, it have a striking look and is very cost-effective. It’s also durable and easy to use. It’s waterproof, mold and mildew-proof, and extremely chemical resistant.
Do you want to give your garage floor a final epoxy touch? An epoxy garage floor coating with vibrant colors will make you feel like you’re in a showroom everytime you drive by.
Epoxying your garage floor will make it look professional. This epoxy is impervious to oil stains, water and wipes clean easily like a kitchen countertop. You can hide any imperfections in the concrete below with color chips or custom paint colors, and you have the anti-skid additives to give you the grip you need when it colder conditions.
It is easy to apply an epoxy coating to concrete floors. But, like painting walls, the trick is in the preparation. The actual application will be easy once you have completed the calculations, made your color choices and cleaned up the target area.
For epoxy to bond well, it needs a surface that is even, slightly rough, but completely clean. It is important to patch any cracks or potholes before apply epoxy garage flooring. Concrete must be no less than 60 days old and unsealed in order for epoxy to adhere. Concrete must be at least 60 days old and not sealed to allow epoxy to adhere. If it does, water will either beads on it or the etching solutions doesn’t foam. In this case, you can remove the sealer using a chemical stripper. (If there is no peeling, you can recoat stained floors.
However, stripping the floor does not clean it. It is important to clean and etch the floor properly. Grease or dirt can compromise epoxy adhesion. Different manufacturers make different kinds of cleaners. You should read the ingredients carefully before you choose which cleaner is best. There are many types of chemical cleaners, from strong degreasers to organics that are safer and more effective. A machine known as a floor maintainer can be rented for around $40 per daily.
Most epoxy coatings come as kits. You can then decide if you need additional supplies once you have chosen one. Manufacturers might suggest two coats or more of epoxy paint and topcoat. However, most standard kits only allow for one coat. You can add color flakes to concrete, which will hide its imperfections. However, you need to decide how thick you’ll spread them across the floor. For garages with foundations that rise above foot level, it may be worth coating the vertical surfaces of your garage to make cleaning easier. The next step is to decide if the finished floor should have an antiskid additive. This option may be beneficial in areas with high ice or rain probability.
It’s all about timing once the floor is ready for coating. It is important to choose a day when the concrete will not be dampened by rain and the temperature is between 50-80 degrees. Otherwise, it can bubble or peel. After you have mixed the epoxy and hardener, the time it takes to dry is approximately 2 hours. Therefore, you need to plan in advance how you want to paint your garage. Waiting is the most difficult part. Each step takes between 12 and 24 hours to dry. You must wait for 72 hours to park your car on the entire floor after it’s dry.
Epoxy floor coatings are prone to premature wear due to the fact that it isn’t suitable for industrial use, despite being advertised as such. This is not an issue with the warranty. The epoxy will start peeling off after excessive use. The floor will likely not have been properly prepared. This is usually due to the epoxy quality.
The temperature of your tires can reach 180 degrees. You shouldn’t use epoxy below 10 Mils of dried thickness. Color flakes, which can displace some epoxy under them, will make it less effective at absorbing heat. These epoxyes won’t be strong enough to prevent epoxy from being activated by hot tires.
Epoxy flooring’s only drawback is its labor-intensive nature. For an average garage with 2 1/2 cars, epoxy flooring requires about 2-3 days to complete.
It can vary and it is almost the same answer that you get for how long a car will last. Epoxy longevity is dependent on the quality of epoxy used, floor prep before and traffic received. The average epoxy coating can last between 20 and 25 years with the right military-grade topcoat. Topcoats are easy to apply. Just a quick/light sanding with 120 grit is enough to make the floor look brand new.
For acid etching, you should allow for 2 days. While the labor required is approximately 3-5 hours, it’s important to remember that you must wait for your floor to dry after acid etching. Then you need each layer of coating to dry. The total drying time is therefore extended to 2-3 days.
Yes. Our systems are compatible with both with or without color flakes and can be used in commercial applications. Contact our team for more information about our Commercial Epoxy Systems. Our “Garage Floor Epoxy”, installations can be used in commercial applications if the epoxy flooring primer is used and a military-grade topcoat option is used. Metallic Epoxy Flooring’s three-layer construction with high-performance primer, high-build metallic epoxy and military-grade topcoat (4 mg) makes it ideal for commercial use.
This is a difficult question. It’s like asking the price of a car. The question will be answered with some caveats. You can find epoxy coatings in a Big Box or online store for as low as $100.00. You have many options. There are water-based, polyurea, and cycloaliphatics. They all have their advantages. There are also military-grade epoxy systems for different applications. However, we don’t do one epoxy that fits all like our competitors. The average DIY military grade epoxy floor kit costs between $1.15 – 2.25/sf, depending on whether you use a primer or topcoat, if color flakes are required, and what type of epoxy system is being installed.
It is important to consider the cost of ownership. For example, let’s consider a garage epoxy floor costing $3,000. It will remain looking great for at least 20 years before it needs a refresh. Take the average epoxy off-the-shelf that costs about $200 and it will last for 2-3 years before it needs to be repainted. What epoxy is more affordable in time and materials? Which one is more expensive? The one that you have to redo every other year or the one that lasts for 20 years. Other epoxy coatings will look worse than you might think. When it comes time to replace them, you’ll need to start again. a new epoxy garage floor can be easy to sand and polish. A new coat of clear resin will be all that is needed to bring them back to their original glory. The epoxy underneath will last for years. The choice is yours to make: do you choose the epoxy with the lowest upfront cost and the most frequent recoating? You don’t even have to consider the time and labor it will take to empty your garage, clean up and redo your flooring over and again.
If you’re willing to spend more upfront on a durable coating, polyurea concrete coatings can be a great option.
