An epoxy floor coating is usually two-part epoxy that you mix. It will stick to your concrete garage floor better than any other oil based, water base or enamel paint. You will get a more dramatic floor with an epoxy floor coating that has a high gloss finish that is unmatched by any other paint. It will also be waterproof and mold and mildew resistant. When cured, epoxy floors are stain-proof and can be cleaned in the same way as your Teflon pot.
Based on 30 years’ experience, garage duty vehicles should have a minimum 20 mgs abrasion rating. A military grade topcoat version can be used in garages with big SUVs. Tractors. Trailers. We also offer workshops with a 4mg loss. You must be below 10mgs for commercial duty traffic with pallet jacks and forklifts. The Commercial Package for Garages can be used if you don’t like the flake appearance. Also, we recommend that you do not use color flakes in your work shop. You won’t be able to find dropped parts on flake floors. Industrial applications or those who want the strongest epoxy floor coating possible, you should apply a coating of 23 mils or thicker. Our ultra military system is specifically made for these types of projects. It comes with a coating thickness of 23-30 mils and a rating of 4mg loss.
We have sold every kind of epoxy garage floor. Over the last 30 years, we have tested and installed every type of garage floor epoxy so we know what works and what doesn’t. There is no one-size fits all epoxy coating. This is why we offer so many epoxies. An epoxy floor coating that is not intended for use is one of the most common mistakes.
We believe that 100% Aliphatic epoxy with a true Urethane epoxy topcoat, which has an equal abrasion-loss rating is suitable for the average traffic load, is the best. If possible, use a primer this will increase your adhesion as well as overall coverage and coating thickness. These are all good things to consider when constructing an epoxy garage floor.

Epoxy is the best flooring option. Epoxy is versatile. We have an epoxy coating system that can be used for almost any application, unlike rubber roll out mats which may not work on some applications. Epoxy is a great choice for DIY projects also, it have a striking look and is very cost-effective. It’s also durable and easy to use. It’s waterproof, mold and mildew-proof, and extremely chemical resistant.
Do you want to finish your garage with a beautiful epoxy floor coating? An epoxy garage floor coating with vibrant colors will make you feel like you’re in a showroom everytime you drive by.
Epoxying your garage flooring is worth it. It gives you a professional look and resists oil stains. Color chips and custom colors conceal imperfections in the concrete. Anti-skid additives provide the grip you need for low-grip days.
Concrete floors can be coated with epoxy just like it is on walls. However the hard work of preparation is the key to success. The actual application will be easy once you have completed the calculations, made your color choices and cleaned up the target area.
Epoxy bonds well when it has a slightly rough, and completely clean surface. It is important to patch any cracks or potholes before apply epoxy garage flooring. Concrete must be more than 60 days old and unsealed for epoxy to adhere. It is possible to tell if your concrete floor has a sealer by checking to see if water beads on it. Also, etching solutions that don’t foam will be a sign of a sealed floor. If there is no peeling, stained floors can be refinished.
However, stripping the floor does not clean it. The epoxy adhesive will be compromised by grease and dirt, so cleaning and polishing should be done slowly. There are many cleaners on the market. Make sure you read all ingredients before choosing which one is right for you. Chemical cleaners are available in many different forms. They can range from powerful degreasers and etchers to more gentle, but less effective organics. A floor maintainer, which costs about $40 per day, can be rented to cut down on elbow grease.
Most epoxy coatings come as kits. Once you have decided on one, decide if you will need extra supplies. Manufacturers might suggest two coats or more of epoxy paint and topcoat. However, most standard kits only allow for one coat. Add color flakes to concrete. This will hide any imperfections. Be sure to measure how many you’ll apply them. To make it easier to clean the garage, you might consider covering the garage’s foundation a few inches higher than the ground. Decide if you want an anti skid additive. This is typically granules that give your floor a sandpaper look. This can be useful in rainy and ice-prone areas.
It’s all about timing once the floor is ready for coating. When the concrete isn’t damp from rain and the temperature is between 60 and 80 degrees, you can start the job. Otherwise if temperatures are below 50 degrees, the application could bubble and peel. After you have mixed the epoxy and hardener, the time it takes to dry is approximately 2 hours. Therefore, you need to plan in advance how you want to paint your garage. Waiting is the most difficult part. Each step takes between 12 and 24 hours to dry. The floor must be dry for at least 72 hours after being completed.
Epoxy floor coatings often wear out prematurely. This is because the coating was not intended to be industrial grade. This is not an issue with the warranty. The epoxy can also begin to peel. The epoxy is not prepared correctly is what you will most likely be told.
Your tires can heat up to 180 degrees. It won’t absorb heat if epoxy is less than 10 Mils in dried thickness, especially if epoxy is used with color flakes. This can cause epoxy to lose some of its mass and make the epoxy thinner. The epoxy you use will not be thick enough to absorb heat from hot tires.
Epoxy flooring’s only drawback is its labor-intensive nature. For an average garage with 2 1/2 cars, epoxy flooring requires about 2-3 days to complete.
It all depends on the epoxy used and how long it has been in use. Epoxy longevity is dependent on the quality of epoxy used, floor prep before and traffic received. In a typical garage, an epoxy coating that is high quality and has a topcoat of military grade can last about 20 years before it needs to be re-applied. Applying new topcoats doesn’t require you to start over. All you need to do is sand the floor with 120 grit to clean it and roughen up the surface before applying a new coat.
If you are grinding your floor, allow at least 2 days and 3 days for acid etching. Although it takes about 3-5hrs to finish, each layer of coating must be allowed to dry. It can take up to 2 days for the entire process.
Yes. We have many systems that can be used commercially with or without color flakes. Contact our team for more information about our Commercial Epoxy Systems. Commercial applications can use our garage floor epoxy when we use an epoxy flooring primer and military grade topcoat option. Metallic Epoxy Flooring is ideal for commercial applications because it has three layers of high-performance primer, military grade metallic epoxy, and topcoat that’s 4 mg abrasion-loss rated.
This is a difficult question. It’s like asking the price of a car. We will answer your question with some caveats. You can find epoxy coatings in a Big Box or online store for as low as $100.00. Between us there are other types of epoxies, such as water-based, polyurea or cycloaliphatics, which are all discussed with their respective drawbacks. There are also military-grade epoxy systems for different applications. However, we don’t do one epoxy that fits all like our competitors. A DIY military-grade epoxy floor kit will run you between $1.15 – $2.25 per square foot depending on whether you use primer, topcoat, color flakes, and which epoxy system you choose to install.
It is important to consider the cost of ownership. Let’s take, for instance, a garage epoxy floor for $3,000. It will last for 20 years without needing to be repainted. Now, take an average of two hundred dollars worth of epoxy. It will stay new for only 2-3 years until it is time to be renewed. What epoxy is more affordable in time and materials? You can choose to have it repainted every 20 years or you can keep it topped up as and when it needs it. Other epoxy coatings will look worse than you might think. When it comes time to replace them, you’ll need to start again. a new epoxy garage floor can be easy to sand and polish. A new coat of clear resin will be all that is needed to bring them back to their original glory. The under epoxy we use will last forever. The decision is up to you as to which epoxy you prefer, whether it’s the one-time epoxy or the one with a lower upfront price and perpetual recoating. You don’t even have to consider the time and labor it will take to empty your garage, clean up and redo your flooring over and again.
Polyurea concrete coats are a great choice, if you’re willing spend more upfront to get a coating that lasts.
